Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (Night Shift)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in the Emergency Department with an oncology pod focus.
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week).
- Floating between units is required.
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- At least 1 year of prior travel nursing experience.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
- Experience with telemetry monitoring.
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.

- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Required Skills
- Proficient in IV starts.
- Experience with telemetry monitoring.
Required Licenses
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting.
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Monthly monitoring through workforce systems (OIG/SAM).
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, etc.).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Annual fit mask test required for inpatient/patient-facing roles (valid for entire assignment).
- Immunizations and health documentation required:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Annual TB questionnaire
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, and rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella immunity (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1–3/31)
- COVID-19 vaccination is recommended but not required.
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exam.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start (with remediation process if failed).
- NIH Stroke Scale certification required within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years (3.0 CE hours minimum).
Additional Information
- Request Time Off (RTO) must be submitted at application; up to 7 consecutive days off may be granted at facility discretion for a 14-week contract.
- Parking permits available for purchase (costs and options subject to change).
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leader.
