Registered Nurse - Behavioral Health

Location: Hickory, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Work in a Behavioral Health unit with 5 different patient care units.
  • Patient population: Adults with diagnoses such as Schizophrenia, Dementia, Manic Bipolar Disorder, Psychosis, Dual Diagnosis, Medical Detox, Depression, and Anxiety Disorders.
  • Shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
  • No call requirements
  • Patient-to-nurse ratios vary by unit, e.g., 23 patients with 2 RNs and 4 CNAs, down to 10 patients with 1 RN and 2 CNAs.
  • Electronic Health Record system used: Cerner

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Behavioral Health nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or Handle With Care (HWC) certification

  • Dress code: Any color scrub
  • Orientation start dates are fixed and must be adhered to (multiple dates from August through December 2026).

  • Facility includes trauma level care and multiple specialized centers (Brain, Cancer, Heart, Lung, Orthopedics, Surgical Weight Loss, Women’s Center, Level 3 NICU).
