Job Opportunity: SICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse – SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit)
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 – 07:15)
  • Hours per Week: 36 hours
  • Patient Ratio: Up to 1:3
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Floating: May float within scope primarily to other ICUs as needed
  • Schedule Flexibility: Block schedule requests can be discussed with manager
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Minimum 1 year of SICU (Surgical Intensive Care) nursing experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by an MD, NP, PA, DO, or equivalent
  • Fit mask test required prior to start (3M 1860 small/regular, 1870, or 1870+ masks accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity (MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella) or signed declinations
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
  • Illinois-specific background checks including Department of Corrections, Most Wanted, and State Police registries within 30 days of start
  • Fingerprinting must be completed in Illinois 3 business days prior to start (not required if holding an active IL license)

Documentation and Onboarding

  • Valid US Driver’s License or State ID required
  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Education verification required (official or unofficial transcripts accepted if pending)
  • Badge photo required within one week of contract signing
  • Completion of computer-based learning modules before or on first day of orientation
  • Review and sign facility Code of Conduct and parking permit forms within 7 days of contract signing

Additional Notes

  • Candidates may be called off up to 36 hours during the 13-week assignment without pay; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts
  • Scrub color: Any solid color allowed

This position is ideal for experienced SICU nurses with an active Illinois license seeking a night shift travel contract in a high-acuity, Level I trauma, Magnet hospital setting.
