Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Night Shift)

Contract Details

  • Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Shift: Night, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts)
  • Schedule: Weekdays, every other weekend
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
  • Blocked schedule

Unit & Specialty

  • Medical Surgical (5N)
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Electronic Medical Record (EMR)

  • Cerner

Uniform

  • Scrubs not provided; burgundy and/or white scrubs required

Attendance Expectations

  • Facility allows only 2-3 call-offs per contract due to attendance concerns

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during work hours)
  • Proof of E-Verify or attestation
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year criminal history check (all locations lived/worked in past 7 years)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (updated every contract renewal)
  • Education verification and RN license verification (recently pulled)
  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands (initial and annual)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Immunizations and health requirements:
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD within 1 year or equivalent)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years, preferred)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella titers or vaccinations (within 2 years)
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series or declination
    • Varicella titer or vaccination (within 2 years)
    • COVID vaccine or declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
  • Stroke education: 8 CEU hours annually (Relias or approved vendors accepted)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required annually)
  • Color blindness testing
  • Competency exams as applicable
  • Facility-specific documents including:
    • Badge photo
    • Background drug screen consent form
    • Non-disclosure of confidential information form
    • Parking pass application
    • Care learning modules (must be completed prior to start)
    • Cerner EMR training modules (must be completed prior to start)
    • ReadySet (RS) health assessment surveys (must be completed prior to start)
  • References:
    • Minimum 2 clinical or hospital evaluations within the past year
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Employment application/resume
