Role Summary

Supports the medical oncologist in an oncology clinic by assisting with patient preparation, clinic visits, orders, follow-up, education, documentation, coordination of care, data collection, and procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Kentucky
• Oncology (1 year of experience)
• Oncology experience within the last year
• BLS
• ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy card
• OCN
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Preferred Experience

• 2 years of experience

Key Responsibilities

• Review patient charts before clinic visits to confirm ordered test results are available
• Support clinic flow and efficiency
• Meet with patients, obtain review of systems, complete medication reconciliation, and gather visit-related information
• Ensure tests, treatments, and referrals are ordered and followed up on
• Assist with treatment orders, medication orders, and refills
• Maintain accurate documentation of care, teaching, medications, patient responses, pain and distress assessments, and critical labs
• Assist with pre-authorizations, pre-certifications, billing and insurance issues, FMLA and disability forms, and specialty medications
• Assist with physician documentation
• Support clinical trials by tracking open trials, assessing eligibility, educating patients and families, and coordinating with clinical trials staff
• Assist with data collection for new patients and consults
