Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lancaster, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse
• Shift: Night, 4 shifts of 12 hours (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM); 3x12 shifts may be considered
• Patient Ratios: 1:6 to 1:7
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• On-call: No
• Floating: Required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities
• Facility Type: Short term acute care hospital
• Total Staffed Beds: 97

• Parking: Free

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in South Carolina
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification

Schedule & Work Conditions

• Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
• Local candidates considered (within 60 miles radius)
• Block schedule accommodation requests possible but not guaranteed
• Hurricane Season (June–November): Staff may be assigned to emergency response teams during this period

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Check: Annual, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including national and state criminal checks
• Employment Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified (may be waived for this facility)
• References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
• Drug Screen: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start, no instant tests accepted
• Physical Exam: Initial physical exam within 1 year, attesting ability to meet job demands
• Immunizations & Health:

  • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if positive history
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination; boosters allowed if low/non-reactive titer
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
  • COVID-19 Vaccines: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
• Radiation Badge: Not required for this position (only for OR RNs & CST)
• Facility-Specific Documents: Includes signed agreements (Code of Conduct, Confidentiality, HIPAA), photo for badge, orientation acknowledgments, and parking permit request
• Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology and other competency exams as applicable

Additional Notes

• Candidates must complete all required orientation modules prior to start; failure to complete results in being sent home
• Facility uses Epic for charting and requires adherence to facility-specific policies and procedures
• Candidates should be prepared for floating to similar units as needed
• All certifications must be valid beyond 30 days from start date; renewals or scheduled courses required if expiring soon

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs with prior travel experience who hold a valid SC or Compact RN license and meet the certification and health requirements. Night shift availability and flexibility to float are essential.
