Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- ACLS (AHA)
- BLS (AHA)
- NRP
- EFM
- Last four digits of SSN
- Clinician middle initial
- Requested time off
- Negative drug screen for all panels
Experience / Skills
- Stabilization of the newborn
- Circulator for C-sections
Unit Details
- Labor and delivery unit with 4 L&D beds, 1 LDRP bed, 1 OR suite, 1 PACU/recovery bed, 4 OB Flex triage beds, and 6 postpartum beds
- Average annual births: 647
- Follows AWHONN guidelines
- Common patient population includes low-risk OB patients, stable newborns at or above 36 weeks gestation, and high-risk OB patients followed by MFM during pregnancy
- Level 1 perinatal/nursery designation for the state of Illinois
Scheduling
- 3 weekends in a 6-week schedule
- Holiday rotation required
- 1–2 days of orientation
Floating
- May float to other units as RN helping hands or sitter support
- May be floated between Ottawa and Peru locations mid-shift
- May be asked to float 0–3 shifts per week as needed
- When floated outside scope, assignment may be sitter, helping hands RN, or patient care technician
Additional Notes
- Central fetal, newborn, and adult monitoring is used on the unit
- RN and providers read fetal heart rate strips
- Unit uses Philips fetal monitoring and OBIX
- Common drips include Pitocin and Magnesium
- No call or standby requirement unless low census affects the shift
- Scrub color is optional, but hospital-provided scrubs are required for C-section OR care
