Registered Nurse — Neuro Med-Surg Acute

Location

• Peoria, Illinois

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Schedule

• 12-hour night shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend
• Every other holiday

Setting

• Neuro medical-surgical acute care unit
• 54 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: days 1:4–5, nights 1:5–6

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS certification
• NIHSS certification
• Level 1 trauma experience
• Previous travel experience
• Prior experience on a dedicated neuro unit
• Experience titrating drips
• Heparin infusion experience

Responsibilities / Clinical Expectations

• May float in rotation with the rest of the staff
• May be assigned to general unit patients when floated
• If floated outside the general unit, will only perform skills within competency and work with a nurse trained for that unit
• RNs do not need to read telemetry strips

Unit Details

• Common patient types include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, neuroscience cases, and some medical overflow
• Charge nurse and house supervisor are present 24/7
• Patient care tech support is available
• High-flow oxygen is used rarely for stable COVID patients

Orientation

• 2 days of unit and computer orientation with an educator and preceptor

Additional Notes

• Local placements are accepted within a 50-mile radius
• Candidates must provide the last four digits of SSN, middle initial, and requested time off for submission
• Negative drug screen required
• No call or standby requirement
• No scrub color requirement
• Tattoos must be covered while on duty
• No piercings besides ears
