Description
Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location
- Freeport, Illinois
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Schedule
- 12-hour day and night shifts
- Night shift
- Every other to every third weekend
- Half of holidays, alternating each year
- Call required when needed for leave coverage or vacations, equal to 1–2 twelve-hour shifts per 6-week period
- May be asked to float only in a critical need situation, and would not take a full patient assignment
Required Qualifications
- Illinois RN license required to submit
- BLS certification
- NRP certification
- AWHONN intermediate or advanced certification
- At least 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience
- Experience with Labor and Delivery is required; LDRP experience is preferred
- Ability to titrate drips
Unit Details
- Labor and Delivery unit with 7 L&D beds, 2 triage beds, 7 postpartum beds, and 1 OR suite for C-sections
- Approximately 255 births annually
- Common cases include labor, preeclampsia, hypertension, obesity, gestational diabetes, and preterm labor
- Babies needing more than 6 hours of oxygen support are transferred out
- Nurses provide OR circulating, recovery, stabilization of newborns, couplet care, and clean gynecology care such as hysterectomies
- Remote monitor capabilities are available for telemetry needs
- OB hospitalists are in house most of the time; anesthesia is available on weekdays during day shift and otherwise arrives within 30 minutes
- Respiratory therapy responds if complications arise
Additional Information
- Self-staffed unit with extra call coverage for leave and vacation
- Department orientation is up to 3 shifts
- Hospital-provided scrubs and waterproof non-slip shoes are used
