Respiratory Therapist
Job Overview
- Location: Decatur, Illinois
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Nights, 3x12 or 4x12 schedule, 6:00 PM–6:30 AM
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- First-timers accepted: Yes
- Locals accepted: Yes
- On-call: Required December through April
- Floating: May float within scope as needed
- Weekend requirement: Every other or every third weekend, depending on department need
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Illinois
- Respiratory Therapist (2 years of experience)
- Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
- BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support issued by American Heart Association
- Experience working with Adult patients
- Experience working with Pediatric patients
- Experience in a(n) Acute Care setting
- Experience in a(n) Inpatient setting
- Endotracheal tube/suctioning
- Extubation
- Intubation Assist
- Nasal airway placement
- Nasal airway suctioning
- Tracheostomy/suctioning
- Experience with Cerner
Clinical Experience Needed
- Adult critical care
- Emergency department
- Pediatrics
Preferred Experience
- NICU
- PICU
- Transports
- Community hospital experience
- Level I or II trauma experience
Key Clinical Skills
- Airway management and suctioning
- Intubation assist and extubation
- Tracheostomy care
- ABG interpretation and arterial blood gas collection
- Chest physiotherapy
- Ventilator management, including BiPAP, CPAP, troubleshooting high-pressure alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Neonatal and pediatric respiratory support, including bubble CPAP, IMV/SIMV, and capillary/umbilical blood gases
- Oxygen therapy, including HFNC, bag-mask, ET tube, and trach collar
- Nebulizer and medication delivery setup
- Care for patients with ARDS, aspiration, COVID, cystic fibrosis, fresh tracheostomy, pneumonia, RSV, and transient tachypnea of the newborn
Additional Notes
- Cerner experience required
- Assist with bronchoscopies on occasion
- May need to assist with transfers to sister hospitals
- Parking permit required, no cost
