ER (Emergency Room) RN

Overview

• Location: Auburn, Nebraska
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Days, 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
• Department: Emergency Room
• Unit setup: 2 Trauma bays, 2 Clinic rooms

Required Qualifications

• BLS certification
• Worked in similar hospital settings
• Accepts first-time travelers

Preferred Qualifications

• ACLS
• PALS
• TNCC

Unit Details

• Average ER volume: 12 patients per day
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 to 1:3
• Staffing includes 2 RN and 1 LPN, or RN coverage
• Common diagnoses include urgent care cases, strokes, MI, and trauma/MVCs
• No cath lab
• Common drips include insulin drip, pain management, and TPA
• Midlevel or PA is always available
• 2 techs support the unit
• Paramedics are available for all shifts
• RT is available during the day, 6a-6p Monday through Friday
• Lab is in house 24/7
• X-ray/CT is close by and in house most hours, otherwise on call
• Monitor techs are not listed; RNs monitor their own telemetry
• No fast track
• No separate triage area
• No separate holding area
• No separate psych/seclusion rooms
• No in-house security 24/7

Floating

• Floats to MS during any given shift for MS and ER patients

Scheduling

• Weekend requirement: every other or every third weekend, determined per contract
• Holiday coverage: fills holiday gaps
• No call or standby requirement
• Low census policy: if there are no inpatients, all RNs stay

Orientation

• 1 full day in the business office, IT, and resources
• 2 twelve-hour orientation shifts, one in ER and one on MS, then independent

Dress Code

• Scrubs are not provided
• Any scrub color is allowed
• No hospital logos or prints
