Overview

• Travel contract for an experienced ER RN in Washington
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
• Orientation/education hours are not guaranteed during the first 2 weeks; expect 25+ hours

Required Qualifications

• Active WA License or Compact License
• BLS
• ACLS
• TNCC
• PALS or ENPC
• 2 full years of experience
• Will accept a traveler with 1 year of experience in a larger trauma setting

Preferred

• NIHSS

Unit Details

• ER/Trauma Center
• 56 beds/trauma bays, with hall beds increasing capacity to 60–70
• Fast track with 6 beds
• Separate triage area with 5 beds
• 18 beds designated for holding inpatients awaiting bed placement
• Locked hall with 6 private treatment rooms for psych/seclusion
• Approximately 170–200 patients per day
• Ratios: 1:3, or 1:4 for low acuity
• Common patient types include cardiac, stroke, sepsis, DKA, AMS, respiratory, abdominal pain, and mental health

Responsibilities and Workflow

• Travelers may be assigned to triage, though department staff generally cover it
• ER RNs manage their own ER holds
• ED Techs perform EKGs
• RTs manage respiratory equipment and complete ABGs
• Nurse or ED Tech draws blood primarily; lab assists when difficult
• Radiology is adjacent to the ED, and transport assists with patient movement as available

Scheduling and Logistics

• Shifts are based on department needs and existing traveler scheduling patterns
• Weekend requirement is based on unit needs/demands
• Must work holidays in November and December; manager may consider 1 of the 3 holidays if it does not conflict with unit demands
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating is not required
• No RTO for the first full week of the assignment
• Any professional scrub colors are allowed

Additional Notes

• Epic is used
• In-house security is available
• Monitor techs are available
• ED physicians/mid-levels and charge nurse/house supervisor are both available
• Extra shifts may be available but are not required
