NICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Carmichael, California (near Sacramento) Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (36 hours/week)

Required Qualifications

• 2 years of NICU experience
• Active BLS (AHA) certification
• Active NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
• Active California RN license
• Copy of driver's license at submittal. Name must match a government-issued ID, with no middle initial or middle name.
• 2 supervisor references from the modality submitting to at submittal: 1 within the past 12 months and 1 within the past 3 years worked
• Not directly employed within the past year by any facility in the associated health system, including CHI and Dignity. Candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered.

• Pediatric experience (unit cares only for babies)

Unit Details

• Unit: NICU, Level 3
• Beds: 26-30
• Patient types: Respiratory failure and preterm infants. No cardiac surgery or defect repair patients.
• Charge nurse: Generally does not take patients, but provides break relief
• Nurse aides: Available as census and staffing dictate
• Vents: Yes
• Hospitalist or intensivist: In house
• IV team: None
• Respiratory therapy: 24/7
• Pharmacy: 24/7
• Scrubs: Navy top; under shirts must be navy, white, or black. Navy scrub jackets are optional.
• Orientation: 1-2 days on the floor with a preceptor
• Additional notes: Hospital is designated "baby friendly" with excellent breastfeeding support

Schedule and Shifts

• Shift starts at 6:45. Report is at the bedside.
• Every other weekend
• Holidays: Rotate with core staff. Travelers work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's). Managers make final scheduling decisions. Holiday time off will be considered but is not guaranteed.
• Overtime and extra shifts are available.
• Self-scheduling is used but is not finalized until the manager balances it. Schedules are posted 4 weeks out. Travelers can view schedules remotely, mark availability for extra shifts, and trade shifts with staff.
• Block scheduling is generally not available.

Floating

• Floats to all other facilities in the Sacramento area; first to float
• Mid-shift float to another facility is rare but can happen.
