RN (Registered Nurse) - Medical Surgical

Location: Dixon, Illinois Department: MedSurg Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Nights (7P-7A), 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• 2 years of Med Surg experience
• BLS (AHA) certification
• Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• Negative drug screen for all panels (the facility is a Drug-Free Campus)

Unit Details

• Beds: 23 on the 4th floor and 14 on the 3rd floor
• Ratios: 1:5 ideal, up to 1:6
• PCT ratio: 1:8
• Common diagnoses: NSTEMI, COPD, PNA, Sepsis, AKI
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Yes
• RNs titrate drips: No
• Telemetry: Yes. Monitor technicians read the strips, and RNs sign off on strips throughout the shift.
• Floating: Only to ICU, ER, or BHC, and only if the candidate has the required level of experience. Otherwise, no floating out of Med Surg.

Schedule and Expectations

• Weekends: Typically every other weekend
• Holidays: Typically every other holiday
• On call/standby: None. Low census can occur but is rare.
• Call-off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks, with no penalty or need to pay for the shift
• Orientation: 12 non-billable hours (guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation), including 1 shift of department-specific orientation with a supplied binder
• Dress code: Any scrub color, closed-toe shoes, good hygiene
