Registered Nurse - Med-Surg/Telemetry

Location: Randallstown, Maryland Contract Length: 14 weeks Employment Type: Travel/Contract Shift: Night, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00 to 07:30), 36 hours per week

Unit Details

• 40-bed Med-Surg/Telemetry unit on 3A/3B
• Average daily census is about 40 patients
• Patient ratio is 1:5-6
• Serves adult and geriatric patients, admitted from the Emergency Department after meeting admission criteria
• Cares for Med-Surg/Telemetry patients, including COVID patients
• Orientation includes about 24 hours on the unit, separate from facility and clinical orientation
• Scrub color is navy blue

Schedule and Assignment Details

• Every other weekend is required
• Floating within scope to like units is required based on hospital needs
• On call is not required
• Self-scheduling is used; no block scheduling option is indicated
• First-time travelers are accepted if they have recent experience in the specialty
• Local candidates are accepted
• Time off:

  • Up to 2 pre-approved time-off requests per contract
  • The system auto-approves 14 days or less of time off
  • Every other winter and summer holiday is required, and no time off is approved for those
  • No time off on hard-to-fill days such as Easter, Mother's Day, and Father's Day

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Maryland
• Med Surg / Telemetry (2 years of experience)
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or RQI
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Blood product administration
• Phlebotomy skills
• IV insertion skills
• Heparin protocol experience
• Surgical drain management
• Chest tube management with Emerson/Pleur-Evac
• Non-invasive airway management
• Experience with tracheostomy care
• Wound vac care
• Experience with Cerner

Preferred

• ACLS
• More experience than the required 2 years
