CVOR Tech Opportunity

Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
Facility: St Alexius Health Bismarck Medical Center
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Overview

• Role: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Technician
• Department: CVOR Tech
• Number of CVOR Suites: 2
• Average Cases per Day: 1-3 (includes thoracic and vascular cases)
• Common Cases:

  • Open hearts (CABG, Valve, aneurysms)
  • Thoracotomies
  • VATS
  • Convergent procedures
  • AAA repairs
  • Carotids
  • ION robotic cases
  • ECMO
  • Impella 5.5
  • Stryker towers

Requirements & Qualifications

• Certifications Required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NCCT
  • North Dakota UAP (Unlicensed Assistive Personnel)
• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years CVOR experience
  • Must be proficient in open heart cases including CABG and valve surgeries
  • Must be able to first scrub
• Must be willing to:

  • Cross-train into general OR if CV volumes are low (including ortho or general cases)
  • Float to the floor as a 1:1 sitter to supplement hours during low case volume
  • Work rotating holidays
• Radius Rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility

Scheduling & Shifts

• Regular Shift: 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM, Monday to Friday
• Early Start: 6:00 AM for Open Heart Case Prep (notified the day before)
• Call Requirements:

  • Weeknight call 3-4 times per week (3:15 PM – 6:45 AM)
  • Weekend call every 2nd to 3rd weekend (Friday 3:15 PM to Monday 6:45 AM)
  • Rotating holidays on call
• Call Response Time: 15 minutes
• Post-call: 8-hour reprieve shifts, sleep room available, housing nearby may be available
• Overtime opportunities available
• Schedule managed by CV team lead

Orientation & Training

• Unit/Department Orientation: 4-5 days
• Buddy Call Shifts: 2 flexible shifts based on recent heart experience

Additional Information

• Charge Nurse coverage on all shifts (7 AM – 11 PM M-F, weekends 7 AM – 7 PM)
• Manager available until 4 PM M-F
• Scrub color and dress code provided
• Family atmosphere within the department
• Refusal to float or cross-train results in unpaid supplemental time off (RDO day)
• Ability to pick up extra shifts for 1:1 sitting to supplement hours

This position is ideal for experienced CVOR techs who are flexible, willing to cross-train, and comfortable with a variety of cardiovascular and general surgical cases.
