Labor and Delivery Nurse Opportunity

Location: Rapid City, South Dakota
Facility: Rapid City Hospital, Monument Health

Unit Overview

• 10 Labor & Delivery beds
• 4 OB Emergency Department (Triage) beds
• 4 Antepartum rooms
• Only Level 3 NICU within a 350-mile radius, accepting a wide range of patient risk levels from low-intervention to high-risk pregnancies
• Patient types include antepartum, OB triage/ED, postpartum, and infants

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years Labor & Delivery experience preferred
• First-time travelers accepted

Patient Ratios

• Antepartum: 1 nurse to 3 patients
• Inactive Labor: 1 nurse to 2 patients
• Active Labor: 1 nurse to 1 patient
• Postpartum/Couplet care: 1 nurse to 3 couplets

Licenses and Certifications

• Required: BLS, NRP
• Preferred: ACLS, certification in inpatient obstetrics, electronic fetal monitoring, or inpatient antepartum

Skills and Responsibilities

• Care for mother-baby couplets
• Experience with Level 2 nursery babies preferred
• Competencies include IV starts, cervical checks, phlebotomy, magnesium sulfate administration, blood administration, insulin management, circulating in C-sections, and C-section recovery care

Orientation

• New Employee Orientation (NEO)
• 4 days with preceptor: 3 days in Labor & Delivery, 1 day in Postpartum

Scheduling

• 12-hour shifts (0630-1830), variable shifts including nights and days throughout the contract
• Weekend rotation every other weekend
• No on-call required
• Holiday shifts as needed, with manager approval for time off

Support Team on Unit

• Unit Secretary
• Scrub Tech supporting L&D RNs
• Charge Nurse
• VAT team available as needed
• Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
• OB Physician team
• Anesthesia/CRNA support

Charting System

• EPIC

Additional Information

• Floating required to Postpartum/Couplet care during contract
• Scrub color: Cobalt Blue (provided by hospital)
