Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (6T Specialty)

Location: Shreveport, Louisiana
Facility: Willis-Knighton Pierremont (Willis-Knighton Health System)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Information

• Unit Type: 6T (Telemetry/MedSurg)
• Beds: 21
• Patient Types:

  • Colorectal (colectomy, colon resection)
  • General MedSurg/Telemetry patients including post-surgical, COPD, CHF, pneumonia, DVT/PE, alcohol use disorder, IV drug abuse, sepsis, diabetes, hypertension, etc.
• Patient Ratios:

  • RN: 1:5-6 (both day and night shifts)
  • CNA: 2 per shift

Schedule & Orientation

• Preferred Schedule: 3 days on, 2 days off
• Workweek: 4 days one week, 3 days the next (mandatory)
• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
• Holiday Work: Expected to work 2 out of 3 holidays during contract
• Orientation: Hospital orientation plus 2 shifts on unit
• Time Off Requests: Manager approval required; limited to 1 weekend off per 13-week contract; no more than 7 days requested off total
• No call required

Experience & Requirements

• Minimum Experience: 2 years required
• First-time travelers: Not accepted
• Travelers previously permanent staff must have 1 year separation from system
• Certifications Required:

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Skills & Competencies:

  • Must pass EKG competency exam prior to arrival (includes MedSurg RNs)
  • Telemetry experience required
  • IV management, care of tubes/drains (JP drain, wound vacs, NG tubes, PEG tubes), Foley catheter care
  • Post-operative care and medication administration
  • Experience with non-titrating drips such as Heparin and IVIG possible

• Charge Nurse may take patient assignments
• Phlebotomy: Peripheral blood draws only
• IV/VAT Team available for PICC/Midline placement
• Respiratory Therapy available as needed
• Hospitalist coverage 24/7
• EMR System: Meditech Expanse
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Medication Dispensing: Pyxis

Floating & Other Notes

• Floating: Required as needed within scope of practice; travelers float first
• Scrub Color: Pewter
• Parking: Free in designated areas
