Experience & Requirements

• Required Experience: Minimum 2 years Med Tele experience in an acute care setting
• First-time Travelers: Accepted
• Previous Permanent Staff: Must have 1 year separation before traveling in this system
• Required Certifications:

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS (preferred)
• Skills:

  • Must pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival (includes MedSurg RNs)
  • Telemetry experience, post-surgical recovery, PIV skills, central line care
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation (preferred)
  • Experience with non-titrating cardiac drips: Dobutamine, Cardizem, Heparin
  • Familiarity with TR bands

Patient Population & Care

• Patient Types:

  • Medical, Surgical, Telemetry
  • CHF, post Cath lab (no sheath removal), Pacemakers, Dialysis, COPD
• Medications: Non-titrating cardiac drips including Dobutamine, Cardizem, Heparin
• Patient Ratios:

  • RN: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights)
  • CNA: 1:10 (3 CNAs on days & nights)

Unit Support & Resources

• Charge nurse (may or may not carry patient load depending on staffing)
• In-house phlebotomy
• IV/VAT team available 7am-3pm
• Resource nurse (staffing dependent)
• Respiratory therapist in-house
• Hospitalist in-house
• OT, PT, Speech Therapy available
• Telemetry monitoring and telemetry tech support
• Admit nurse

Technology & Equipment

• EMR: Meditech Expanse
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Medication Dispensing: Pyxis

Orientation & Scheduling

• Orientation:

  • 1 day hospital orientation
  • 2-3 shifts on unit orientation
• Schedule:

  • 4 days one week, 3 days the next (mandatory)
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend
  • Time off: Up to 7 days allowed, must extend contract by 1 week per full week off
  • Only 1 weekend off per 13-week contract
  • Blackout dates: Halloween 2024, Black Friday 2024
• Call: No on-call required
• Holiday Work: Expected to work 2 out of 3 holidays
