Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry)

Location: Akron, Ohio
Facility: Cleveland Clinic Akron General

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on the Med/Surg Telemetry unit.
  • Must have a minimum of 18 months recent permanent Med/Surg Telemetry experience prior to travel assignment.
  • Must hold a permanent Ohio nursing license or a license from a compact state.
  • Required certifications: AHA BLS & ACLS.
  • Hours worked will be submitted via Qualivis – Lotus system.

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Ohio RN License (Permanent) or Compact State License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA Instructor or Provider or RQI accepted.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA Instructor or Provider or RQI accepted.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Required for certain pediatric units (not mandatory for Med/Surg Tele).
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Required for L&D, OB/GYN, NICU (not required for Med/Surg Tele).
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – Required for ER; preferred for other units.
  • State License Verification – Primary source verification within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS Verification – Required within 30 days of start.
  • HIPAA Safety Manual Acknowledgement – Required annually.
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) – Required onsite during orientation for all bedside RNs except OR.
  • Competency Exams – Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Core Competencies (Parts I, II, III) – Required and must be updated annually.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam – Within 1 year of start, including assessment of ability to perform essential job functions; eye exam and color-blind testing required for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later.
  • Fit Mask Test – N95 fit test within 12 months of start, updated annually.
  • Immunizations:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) or chest X-ray if history of positive TB, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal
    • Hepatitis B – Titer, series, or declination documentation
    • Seasonal Flu Vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
  • Drug Testing – Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
  • Eye Exam & Color Blind Exam – Required within 1 year of start for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later.

Background & Employment History

  • Background Check – Required prior to start; must be updated annually and for breaks in service of 2+ months. Includes 7-year FCRA compliant search, SSN trace, sex offender, OFAC, FACIS, education verification.
  • References – 2 professional references from employment within 1 year of start required (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
  • Employment Application – Must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar area to assignment.
  • Fingerprinting – FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
  • Education Verification – Required for all candidates. International verifications require CGFNS documentation as placeholder if needed.

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for Badge – Required for certain roles (not specifically Med/Surg Tele RN).
  • Completion of Cleveland Clinic Online Training Modules – Must be completed prior to start; includes onboarding and mandatory training. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome.
  • SafeMedicate Prep Materials – Provided for review in preparation for pass/fail medication and EKG testing during orientation.
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing – Required for all nursing positions except OR.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must carry a government-issued photo ID at all times while on assignment.
  • Candidates with gaps in employment or returning to Cleveland Clinic may have specific onboarding or module completion requirements.
  • Religious and medical exemptions for vaccines and immunizations are reviewed on a case-by-case basis; declinations are generally not accepted.
  • Candidates must be aware of strict compliance with all documentation and certification renewals prior to start.
