Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - 3North Unit
Location: Shreveport, Louisiana
Facility: Willis-Knighton Medical Center (Willis-Knighton Health System)
Unit: 3North (Medical, Surgical, Oncology)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Information
- Beds: 25
- Patient Types: Medical, Surgical, Oncology (including chemo, radiation, direct admissions from cancer center, comfort care, end of life)
- Exclusions: No bone marrow transplants performed
- Patient Ratios:
- RN Days: 1:4-5
- RN Nights: 1:5-6
- CNA Days: 2 per 25 patients
- CNA Nights: 1 per 25 patients
Experience & Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of permanent staff RN experience in acute care required
- First-time travelers must meet the 2-year experience requirement
- Travelers previously permanent staff must have a 1-year separation before traveling here
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Chemo certification preferred but not required (verification needed)
Skills & Competencies
- Must pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival (includes MedSurg RNs)
- Proficient in medication administration, IV starts, port access, drain management, infection prevention, central line management with blood draws
- Strong clinical skills and experience required
Unit Support
- Charge nurse assumes patient assignments
- Phlebotomy available for peripheral blood draws only
- IV/VAT team available for PICC/Midline placement
- Resource nurses and nursing supervisors available 24/7
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 for scheduled breathing treatments
- Hospitalist coverage 24/7
- Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT), Speech Therapy (ST) available
Technology & Equipment
- EMR system: Meditech Expanse
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication dispensing: Pyxis
Orientation & Training
- 2 days at Innovation Center for computer access and EMR training
- 2 days on unit with a preceptor
Scheduling & Time Off
- Weekend rotation: every other weekend
- Work schedule: 4 days one week, 3 days the next (mandatory)
- Time off: Up to 7 days allowed; must extend contract for any full week off
- Only 1 weekend off per 13-week contract allowed
- Blackout dates: Halloween 2024, Black Friday 2024
- No on-call responsibilities
- Holiday work: Expected to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
