Job Opportunity: Float Pool Nurse (ICU/MedSurg Tele/PCU)
Location: Prescott, Arizona
Facility: Yavapai Regional Medical Center
Unit/Department
- Float Pool covering ICU, MedSurg Tele, and PCU across both East and West campuses
- Includes inpatient holding in the Emergency Department
- East Campus (Campus 2) includes a 10-bed double occupancy unit with ICU and stepdown patients
- West Campus Stepdown has 14 double occupancy rooms, average census 20
- West MedSurg Tele has 95 beds divided into 4 areas
- MedSurg is organized into 10-room pods, double occupancy
Nurse:Patient Ratios
- PCU: 1:4
- MedSurg Tele: 1:5-6
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Geriatric patients
- Orthopedic patients
- Post-procedural patients from cath lab (groin site care)
- Post MI, post Cardiac Cath patients
- CABG post-op days 3-4
Experience & Skills Required
- Minimum 1 year ICU experience
- Comfortable titrating drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Insulin
- Ability to interpret cardiac monitor strips (RNs read strips)
Nursing Roles & Support
- Charge nurse present on each unit; does not take patient assignments
- Nurse aides utilized in all settings
- Monitor techs monitor PCU and MedSurg Tele units
Respiratory Therapy Equipment
- CPAP or BiPAP used at night in MedSurg
- BiPAP, CPAP, and Heated High Flow oxygen available in PCU
Scheduling & Shifts
- 12-hour shifts: 7 AM - 7 PM and 7 PM - 7 AM
- Schedule made by float pool scheduler, published 6 weeks in advance for 4 weeks at a time
- Travelers must be flexible; night shift may allow block scheduling
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday coverage included in permanent staff rotation
- Call/standby required on shifts with excessive staff; standby nurses may be called in during their 12-hour shift
Unit Assignment & Communication
- Assignments communicated by text message 2 hours prior to shift start
- Travel time between campuses approximately 20-25 minutes
Dress Code
- Currently solid color professional scrubs
- Transitioning to navy scrubs to align with Dignity Health guidelines starting October
Orientation
- 8-hour general hospital orientation day
- 12-hour shift orientation at West MedSurg Tele and PCU
- East campus orientation similar but smaller and easier to navigate
This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses comfortable with a variety of critical care settings and flexible scheduling.
