Job Opportunity: FBC/LDRP RN - Winona Health Services, Minnesota
Position Overview
- Location: Winona, Minnesota
- Facility: Winona Health Services
- Unit: Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP)
- Shift: Night shift, 7 AM - 7 PM
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Start: ASAP
Certifications & Experience Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
- Required: Minimum 1 year of LDRP experience
- Must have some Med-Surg (MS) experience; floating to MS unit may be required
- Prefer STABLE certification (not required)
- Comfortable caring for infants/newborns with minor respiratory needs
- Comfortable mentoring or orienting new staff or travelers
Unit Details
- LDRP Beds: 5
- OR Suites for C-Sections: 1 (located in the OR)
- Triage Beds: 1
- Births: Approximately 15 births per month (~180 per year)
- Staffing Ratios: Follow AWHONN Staffing Guidelines
- Common Patient Types: Pregnant women 35+ weeks gestation, including some higher risk cases such as pre-eclampsia, diabetes mellitus, advanced maternal age, and twins (no triplets)
- Charge Nurse: Located on Med-Surg Tele unit; may have patient assignment and oversees OB, ICU, and Med-Surg Tele units
- Nurse Aides and Surgical Techs: Surgical techs scrub for C-sections; nurse aides available on the floor
Clinical Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Pitocin, Insulin, Magnesium, IV antibiotics, and antivirals
- OB/Neonatologist coverage: Typically in-house during the day; on-call with 20-minute response time and may stay in-house if concerns arise
- Anesthesia: On-call with 20-minute response time; may stay in-house if needed
- Respiratory Therapist: In-house 24/7; attends deliveries if called
- Tele/Monitor Techs: Post C-section patients recover in PACU or ICU; OB RN may follow mother into ICU or PACU to care for baby
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) System: GE Centricity; RNs read their own strips
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Shift Hours: 6:45 AM - 7:15 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch
- Schedule: Created by department leadership, posted 4 weeks in advance
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or every third weekend
- Holiday Requirement: May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
- Call/Standby: May be asked to take on-call shifts during low census; call shifts are unpaid if volunteered
- Floating: May be required to float to Med-Surg or Med-Surg Pediatrics units
- Dress Code: Any color scrubs allowed; scrubs provided for OR use
- Orientation: One 12-hour general orientation shift including floor time, plus one 12-hour shift with a preceptor

- Radius Rule: 100 miles
- Common diagnoses include higher risk pregnancies and newborn care with minor respiratory needs
- First-time travelers are accepted
This position is ideal for experienced LDRP nurses comfortable with a variety of maternal and newborn care responsibilities, including some higher-risk patients and occasional floating to other units.
