Description

ICU RN Opportunity

Location: Dickinson, North Dakota
Facility: St Alexius Health Dickinson Medical Center
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Details

  • Department: ICU
  • Number of Beds: 4
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 depending on acuity
  • Common Patient Diagnoses:
    • Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
    • Sepsis
    • Respiratory failure
    • Cardiac issues (rate and rhythm control)
    • Medical detox
    • Patients with arterial lines and central venous pressure (CVP) monitoring

Clinical Requirements

  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or TCAR or experience with trauma patient care
  • RN Responsibilities:
    • Titrate drips typical to ICU settings
    • Read and interpret telemetry/monitor strips (no tele/monitor techs on unit)
    • Troubleshoot respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators
  • Charge Nurse: No charge nurse on unit; ER staff oversees ICU
  • Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: None on unit

Scheduling & Orientation

  • Shift: 7 AM to 7 PM
  • Scheduling: Set by director (no self-scheduling)
  • Weekend/Holiday Requirements: Work as needed
  • Floating: May float to MS or ER for 1:1 assignments
  • Orientation: 3 shifts of 12 hours each, unit-specific
  • Scrub Color: Navy

Additional Information

  • Fit Testing & Facial Hair Policy:
    • Clinicians with facial hair must pass specific fit tests (3M Aura 1860 or 1870+).
    • If unable to pass, a Portacount test is required but cannot be done with facial hair.
    • PAPR is not available on site. Failure to pass fit testing due to facial hair will result in contract cancellation unless facial hair is removed.
  • Attributes for Success: Coachability, motivation, ability to identify and coach unsafe situations, teamwork
  • Radius Rule: Must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI or Dignity)
  • Return to Office (RTO): Required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals after submission

This position involves no direct clinical involvement beyond ICU nursing duties described.
