Job Opportunity: Interventional Radiology (IR) Tech

Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Facility: Missouri Baptist Medical Center (BJC HealthCare)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Role: IR Tech working in a hybrid OR (not Cath lab or IR lab) alongside CT surgeons for hybrid heart cases
  • Schedule:
    • Primary: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (06:30 - 19:00)
    • Alternate: 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each (06:30 - 15:00)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Yes, multiple options available (discuss during interview)
  • Floating: Yes, within service line and scope (no floating to sister facilities)
  • Locals: Not accepted (must be outside 75-mile radius)
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: 7 days per 13-week contract

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience
  • Must have hybrid OR experience (scrubbing, wiring, running table, layering 3D images)
  • Experience with Siemens equipment required
  • Experience with EVAR and TAVR procedures preferred
  • Cath lab/IR experience helpful but focus is hybrid OR heart room cases
  • Advanced modality tech skills required

Certifications & Licenses

  • Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • IEMA (Illinois Emergency Management Agency) certification
    • AART or CCI certification
  • Preferred:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
  • Licensing:
    • Pending Missouri state license accepted
    • Primary source verification of professional license required
    • NURSYS verification required for Missouri licenses

Patient Ratio & Census

  • Day shift ratio: 1 tech to 5 patients
  • Weekend ratio: 1 tech to 2 patients
  • Average daily census: 6 patients

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Background check within 6 months (7-year search)
  • Drug testing within 1 year, must include specific panels (amphetamines, opiates, cocaine, etc.)
  • Physical exam within 1 year
  • Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Flu vaccination or approved exemption (seasonal requirement)
  • TB testing: Two negative PPDs or acceptable alternatives (T-Spot or Q-Gold) within 1 year
  • HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, and Dress Code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • Regulatory Compliance Education (annual training with 80%+ score)
  • Other facility-specific documents and forms required prior to start

Additional Notes

  • First-time travelers not accepted for this role
  • Candidates must be able to meet all compliance and credentialing requirements prior to start
  • Floating within the service line may be required to meet facility needs

This position is ideal for experienced IR Techs with hybrid OR expertise looking for a travel contract in a well-established acute care hospital system.
