ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Decatur, Illinois
Facility: Decatur Memorial Hospital (Hereford Regional Medical Center)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Shift Details
- Specialty: ICU Registered Nurse
- Shift: Nights (6:00 PM - 6:30 AM)
- Unit Size: 20 rooms/beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5 for all shifts
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: May float within scope as needed
- Block Scheduling: Possible, discuss with manager
- Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
- License: Must have active Illinois RN license (pending licenses not accepted)
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Minimum 2 years ICU nursing experience required
- First-time travelers accepted
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Clinical Skills & Experience Required
Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Obtain and interpret 12-lead EKGs
- Pre/Post Cardiac Catheterization/intervention care
- Chronic and acute renal failure management
IV Therapy
- Accessing ports
- Arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- Central line and PICC line care/management
- Starting IVs
Medication Experience
- Continuous IV sedation
- Emergency medications
- Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
Stroke Management
- CVA/Acute stroke management experience
Respiratory/Thoracic Care
- Management of BiPAP and CPAP
- Care of ventilated patients
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Ventilator management
Professional Skills
- Infection prevention and isolation precautions (PPE use)
- Code blue and rapid response team participation

- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually Oct 1 - Apr 1)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs
- Fit mask test (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Background check covering last 7 years, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Professional references (2 required for clinical candidates)
- Education verification (degree/transcript/diploma)
- Illinois-specific registry and state searches as required
- Fingerprinting through Illinois Health Care Worker Registry (must be done in Illinois)
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs who meet the clinical and certification requirements and are comfortable working night shifts in a Level II Trauma acute care hospital setting.
