Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Labor & Delivery)
  • Experience Required:
    • Manager prefers at least 2 years of experience for independent night shift work.
    • Candidates with 1 to 1.5 years experience may be considered if they have worked on a high risk/high census L&D unit.
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift Details:
    • Night shift with independent responsibilities expected.
    • Floating between units as needed (units include Milwaukie, Newberg, Portland, Hood River, Willamette Falls, and Seaside).
    • On-call required: 1 low census shift per pay period.
    • Weekend work required every other or every third weekend.
    • Block schedules are not required.
  • Patient Ratios:
    • 1:1 for laboring patients
    • 1:3 for postpartum patients
  • Special Requirements:
    • 48-hour shifts are not approved.
    • Must have a vehicle for this assignment.
    • Floating to other units/facilities based on skill set is common.

Uniform and Parking

  • Scrub Color: Any color allowed; OR/Critical Care/ED/Maternal Child scrubs are provided.
  • Parking: No fee for parking.

Certifications Required

  • Mandatory Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - AWHONN or NCC-EFM certification preferred
  • Other Certifications:
    • Chemotherapy certification (if applicable)
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - if required by unit
    • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) - if required
    • NIH Stroke Certification - if applicable
  • License Verification:
    • Current RN license verification (NURSYS) required.
    • State license verification as applicable.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) required for travel assignments, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and screenings required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (masking may be required if declined)
    • COVID-19 vaccination or declination (required if onsite)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests).

Background and Compliance

  • Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
  • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty within the last 3 years.
  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years required.
  • Education verification required for all candidates.
  • Skills checklist updated annually as applicable.

Training and Onboarding

  • Completion of Providence-specific WorkRamp modules required prior to start, including:
    • Core modules for Oregon facilities and specialty-specific modules for L&D.
    • Epic training modules (completion required within a week of orientation).
  • Floating policy acknowledgment required.

Additional Notes

  • Travelers should be prepared to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance.
  • Must have reliable transportation for assignment.
  • Epic electronic health record system is used for charting.

This position is ideal for experienced L&D RNs who are comfortable working independently on night shifts and are flexible with floating between units and facilities within the Providence Health and Services system in Oregon.
