Registered Nurse - Stepdown Intermediate Care
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Facility: Ascension Borgess Hospital (Beacon Health System)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Unit: Stepdown Intermediate Care (22-bed unit)
- Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
- Call Requirements: Yes
- Holiday Requirements: Every other holiday
- Floating: As needed
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Locals: Not accepted (must live at least 50 miles away)
- Scrub Color: Caribbean Blue
- Charting System: Cerner Powerchart
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Preferred: CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
Additional certifications may be required depending on unit specifics; refer to unit job descriptions for details.
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (specific testing protocols apply)
- TB questionnaire (prior to start and annually)
- Immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious declination (documentation required prior to start)
- Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant accepted if needed for quick start)
- Background check within 90 days covering last 7 years of residence and work history
- Education verification or diploma/transcript
Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of facility-required modules (approx. 8-10 hours) prior to start
- Submission of a clear, passport-style photo for badge
- Completion of confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement
- Compliance with Beacon Health System’s COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical exemption policies
- Flu declination forms if applicable (medical or religious)
- Other facility-specific documents and attestations as required
Notes
- Candidates must be prepared for on-site testing such as EKG exams if applicable to the role.
- Modules must be completed by 1 PM CST the Friday before the start date.
- Candidates are paid for 8 hours upon completion of required modules prior to start.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized stepdown unit within a well-established health system, with structured shifts and clear certification and compliance expectations.
