Labor and Delivery Nurse Opportunity

Location: Kankakee, Illinois
Facility: Riverside Medical Center
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit: Labor & Delivery / Postpartum / Mother-Baby (LDRP)
• L&D Beds: 7
• OR Suites for C-Sections: 1 primary and 1 backup adjacent to the unit
• Triage Beds: 2 triage rooms and 2 NST beds
• Postpartum Beds: 15
• Births per Year: Approximately 770 (2024)
• Level 2 designated facility

Certifications & Requirements

• Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Heart Monitoring)
• Driver’s License required for submission
• Experience in labor management, OR circulation, and PACU recovery required
• RNs are required to titrate drips such as Oxytocin, Insulin, and Magnesium

Staffing & Support

• Charge Nurse assigned each shift with patient assignment
• Scrub tech assigned each shift to assist with deliveries, stock rooms, and repositioning
• OB on call with office in building; Pediatrician in house 24/7
• Anesthesia available in house 24/7
• Respiratory Therapy manages vents, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow; nursing manages oxygen delivery via NC and Neopuff
• No tele/monitor techs for labor patients; RNs read their own strips using GE monitors
• EFM System: Periwatch

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Shift: 5:00 PM – 5:30 AM
• Self-scheduling with rotating every other weekend
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every 3rd holiday
• No call requirement; possible standby for scheduled shifts if volume is low
• Floating: Labor nurses may float to postpartum if volume is low
• Orientation: 1-2 shifts of unit/department specific orientation
• Dress Code: Hospital supplied scrubs
