Job Opportunity: Occupational Therapist (OT) - Home Health
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Facility: University of New Mexico Hospital
Hospital System: University of New Mexico Hospitals
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Therapy/Rehabilitation (Occupational Therapy - Home Health)
- Shift: 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (5x8s)
- Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics
- Patient Load: 8-12 patients assigned
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Weekend Requirement: No
- On-call Requirement: None
- Floating: Clinician may float within scope to meet facility needs (no floating to sister facilities)
- Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed
- Locals: Not accepted within 75 miles radius
- Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours/week (facility may call off up to 3 times during the 13-week assignment)
- Mileage Reimbursement: Federal IRS standard mileage rate, with a 35-mile radius/territory
Licensure & Certification Requirements
- State License: New Mexico license required (pending state license accepted)
- National Certifications Required:
- MOAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) Certification required for all RN and allied candidates working in Behavioral Health units.
- If not already certified, a 4-hour de-escalation course will be provided during the first week. Failure to pass may result in contract cancellation.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- Additional Certifications (may be required depending on unit):
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, ENPC, CPI, NIH Stroke Certification (check unit-specific requirements)
- Competency Exams:
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (for certain units)
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) may be required
- Fingerprinting: Required for all candidates for NM Department of Health clearance; done onsite during orientation.
- Home Health travelers (RN, OT, PT) must do a second set of fingerprints upon arrival due to potential presence of children in homes.
Health & Safety Requirements
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Required with religious and medical exemptions accepted (exemption form required)
- Flu Vaccination: Required year-round with exceptions for exemptions or declinations
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year prior to start
- Fit Mask Test: Required within 1 year of start; specific N95 masks accepted; PAPR accommodations available if needed
- TB Testing: Negative Qgold, Tspot, or PPD within 1 year; additional requirements for past positive responders
- Immunizations:
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer required
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer required (history of disease not accepted)
- Hepatitis B: Declination, series, or titer required
- Drug Testing: Negative drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
Documentation & Compliance
- Required Documents:
- Valid non-local driver’s license (ID cards not accepted)
- Social Security Card
- State License with original NM license and 3D seal (for Radiology and other specialties)
- Background Check: 7-year criminal history within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within one year of start
- Two professional references within three years
- Skills Checklist
- Education Verification (diploma or transcript acceptable if 3rd party verification unavailable)
- Work History Verification (minimum 3 years)
- TB Questionnaire (annual requirement)
- UNMH Traveler Compliance Form
- UNMH Emergency Contact Form (must be completed before start)
- UNMH Background Registration Form (must be complete and accurate)
- UNMH Welcome PowerPoint review and acknowledgement prior to start
- Work Experience Checklists and Confidentiality Statements: Not required due to crisis credentialing policies currently in place
Additional Notes
- Orientation: Includes MOAB certification course if needed, Cerner training (optional test-out available), and fingerprinting
- Remote Time Off (RTO): Requests greater than 7 days require approval
- Productivity Standards: For PT, 27 productivity points expected for a 40-hour week (weighted by visit type)
- Transportation: Location is not near public transportation; candidates must have reliable transportation and may need approval if using alternative means
