Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Facility: University of Maryland Medical Center
Hospital System: NJ Sports Spine and Wellness
Contract Length: 12 months (ending 10/18/2025)


Job Requirements & Credentials

Licensure & Certifications

  • Valid State Nursing License (Primary source verification required)
  • NURSYS Verification for RN required
  • ACLS (AHA ONLY)
  • BLS (AHA ONLY)
  • PALS (AHA ONLY, if applicable)
  • NRP (AHA/AAP ONLY, if applicable)
  • Chemotherapy certification (if applicable)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) (if applicable)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) (if applicable)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (updated annually, if applicable)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification (if applicable)
  • Other certifications as required by unit/job description

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (80% minimum, annual)
  • Color Blind Testing (one-time)
  • General Competency Exam (80% minimum, annual)
  • Age Specific Competency Exam (80% minimum, annual)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (80% minimum, annual, excludes some specialties)

Facility Specific Information

Uniform/Dress Code

  • Navy blue scrubs standard; pink scrubs for trauma unit
  • Pediatric department: navy blue scrub pants with child-friendly tops
  • Undershirts: white short sleeve or navy long sleeve (pink if wearing pink scrubs)
  • GOR department or case management: business casual (no jeans, no open-toe shoes, no sleeveless tops, no shorts)

Photo for Badge

  • Passport/badge style photo with solid white or beige background required

Documents to Sign Prior to Start

  • UMMS RN Job Description
  • Confidentiality Agreement
  • Dress Code Acknowledgment
  • Badge Application (time sensitive, complete within 72 hours of signing)
  • Latex Allergy Questionnaire (all candidates)

Epic Training

  • Portfolio Training Test Out Form available for eligible candidates with prior Epic experience
  • Test out requires 85% or higher to waive full Epic training

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start (including Latex Screen)
  • Fit Mask Test within 1 year of start (specific mask types accepted)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for units working with children)
  • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray (updated annually)
  • TB Questionnaire if positive TB result
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted, series not accepted)
    • Varicella
  • Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel depending on facility) within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccine no longer required at this facility, but exemptions accepted if required elsewhere
  • COVID-19 booster preferred but not required

Background & Compliance

  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM checks within 30 days of start
  • HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
  • Employment verification for previous 5 years
  • Education verification for highest level of education
  • Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start

Identification & Verification

  • I9 or Attestation required
  • Government issued photo ID required
  • E-Verify or Attestation required
