Surgical Services - PACU Position

Location: Lumberton, North Carolina
Facility: UNC Health Southeastern

Shift Details

• Schedule: Monday to Friday, 5 shifts of 8 hours (05:30 AM - 2:00 PM)
• Shift times may vary based on need
• Schedule cycle: every 8 weeks
• Weekend rotation and on-call requirement: Friday night and weekend call approximately every 8-10 weekends
• Holiday expectations discussed during interview
• Manager approval required for time off (RTO)
• Scrub color provided
• Free parking available

Unit and Work Environment

• Number of Operating Rooms: 4 ORs and 1 Endoscopy Suite
• Staff rotate through PreOp and PACU (Phase 1 & Phase 2) areas
• Floating throughout the unit (PreOp, PACU Phase 1 and Phase 2)

Case Types

• Gynecology (GYN)
• General Surgery
• Robotics: Bariatric, Prostate, Hernia, Gallbladder, Hysterectomy
• Urology
• Orthopedics and Spine
• Podiatry
• Plastic Surgery
• Cataracts
• ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat)
• Endoscopy: Colonoscopy, EGD, ERCP, Bronchoscopy

Patient Ratios

• Pre-op: 1 nurse to 3 or 4 patients (depending on acuity)
• PACU Phase 1: 1 nurse to 2 patients
• PACU Phase 2: 1 nurse to 4 patients

Required Licensure and Certifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Orientation

• 3 orientation days provided

Technology and Equipment

• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Epic
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Medication Dispensing System: Omnicell

Experience

• Travelers with 1 year of experience are accepted

Additional Requirements and Compliance

• Annual core competencies and skills checklist
• Various certifications and verifications including immunizations, background checks, drug screen, HIPAA training, and others as part of onboarding and compliance

This position offers a dynamic surgical services environment with a variety of case types and opportunities to work across PreOp and PACU phases. It requires flexibility in scheduling and a strong foundation in critical care certifications.
