Job Opportunity: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry RN
Location: Shreveport, Louisiana
Facility: Willis-Knighton Pierremont (Willis-Knighton Health System)
Unit: 6West – New Medical Surgical/Telemetry Unit
General Information
- Beds: 18
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of permanent staff RN experience in acute care
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted if they meet the 2-year acute care RN experience requirement
- Rehire Policy: Travelers must have a 1-year separation if previously permanent staff
Patient Population & Conditions
- Medical-Surgical and telemetry patients
- Common diagnoses: Sepsis, Cellulitis, DVT/PE, CHF, COPD, COVID-19, Pneumonia
- Occasional post-op overflow including Total Joint replacements (knees, hips, shoulders) and GI/Abdominal surgeries (hemicolectomies, bowel resections)
Patient Ratios
- RN: 1:5-6 (day), 1:6 (night)
- CNA: 2 per shift (unless census is low)
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Skills & Competencies
- Must pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival (includes Med-Surg RNs)
- Experience with wound management, JP drains, wound vacs
- Hemodialysis catheter care, fistulas
- PCA and pain management
Unit Support
- Charge nurse (typically free floating)
- HUC/Secretary (day shift only)
- In-house phlebotomy (RN draws CVL/PICC/Midline)
- IV/VAT team available 7am-3pm (PICC placement)
- Respiratory Therapy (RT) in-house
- Hospitalists available in-house for most patients
- Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT), Speech Therapy (ST)
Technology & Equipment
- EMR: Meditech Expanse
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
Floating Policy
- Float to any Med/Surg area within the hospital
- Travelers float first
Orientation
- 2-4 day hospital orientation
- 2 days unit orientation (may vary based on experience)
Scheduling
- Weekend rotation: every other weekend
- Work schedule alternates between 4 days one week and 3 days the next (mandatory)
- Time off requests: Up to 7 days allowed; must extend contract by 1 week for every full week off requested
- Only one weekend off per 13-week contract allowed
- No on-call required
- Holiday work: expected to work 2 out of 3 holidays

- Scrub color: Pewter
- T-shirts must be gray, white, or black with WK monogram
- Jackets must be gray or black
- Badges must be worn above the waist and visible at all times
- Free parking available in designated areas
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
