Description
Registered Nurse - Ortho RN
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Facility: Springfield Memorial Hospital (Hereford Regional Medical Center)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Unit: 38 bed unit
- Shift: Nights, either 4x12 or 3x12 (1845-0645)
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- First-timers Accepted: Yes
- Weekend Requirement: Work every third weekend
- On-call: None
- Floating: May float to other Med Surg departments as needed
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
- License: Must have active Illinois RN license (no pending licenses accepted)
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
Certifications & Skills
- Required: BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Preferred: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), Telemetry experience, Cerner charting experience
- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy Skills: PICC line management, starting IVs
- Travel Experience: Preferred

Certifications & Verifications
- BLS (AHA or RQI acceptable)
- ACLS (preferred, AHA or RQI acceptable)
- PALS (if applicable)
- State License verification (primary source)
- NURSYS verification
- HIPAA Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- Competency Exam (clinical/allied candidates)
Health Documents
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (signed by MD, NP, PA, DO, etc.)
- Fit mask test (3M1860 small/regular, 1870, or 1870+)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- TB Questionnaire (updated annually)
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required Oct 1 – Apr 1)
Background & History Checks
- Background check within 30 days of start (7 years history, includes SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, FACIS Level 3)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days
- HHS/OIG check within 30 days
- References: 2 professional references required (clinical/allied candidates)
- Skills checklist (clinical/allied candidates)
- Education verification (degree verification required)

Additional Notes
- Candidate must submit a badge photo within one week of signing contract (color photo, mid-shoulders up, plain background)
- Must review and sign Code of Conduct within 7 days of contract signing
- Parking permit form must be completed within 7 days of contract signing (unless using alternate transportation)
- Flu vaccine declinations are not accepted; exemptions require facility-specific forms and approval
- Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay for those hours; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts
This position is ideal for RNs with orthopedic and telemetry experience who are licensed in Illinois and comfortable working night shifts in a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital.
