ICU RN Opportunity
Location: Dickinson, North Dakota
Facility: St Alexius Health Dickinson Medical Center
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Department: ICU
- Number of Beds: 4
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 depending on acuity
- Common Patient Diagnoses:
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Sepsis
- Respiratory failure
- Cardiac issues (rate and rhythm control)
- Medical detox
- Patients with arterial lines and central venous pressure (CVP) monitoring
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC / TCAR or experience with trauma patient care
Clinical Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips typical to an ICU setting
- RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips (no telemetry techs on unit)
- Respiratory therapy equipment management ranges from nasal cannula to ventilators; RNs troubleshoot as needed
- No charge nurse on the unit; ER manages ICU
- No nurse aides or patient care techs on the unit
Scheduling & Shifts
- Shift: 7 AM to 7 PM
- Schedule created by director (no self-scheduling)
- Weekend and holiday work as needed
- Floating to Medical-Surgical or ER for 1:1 assignments
- Unit-specific orientation: 3 shifts (12 hours each)
Additional Information
- No clinical involvement outside ICU duties
- Fit testing required; facial hair may disqualify due to inability to pass fit test for respiratory protection
- Scrub color: Navy
- Successful nurses are coachable, motivated, able to identify and coach unsafe situations, and work well in a team
- Radius rule: Must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI or Dignity)
- Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals
This position is ideal for ICU nurses with trauma experience and required certifications looking for a 13-week contract in a small ICU setting.
