Unit Information

• Unit: Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU)
• Number of Beds: 6
• Location: 3rd Floor, Women’s & Children’s Hospital
• Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:2
• Typical Equipment:

  • Alaris IV pump
  • Bair Hugger
  • Kangaroo Feeding Pump
  • Giraffe infant warmer
  • Ventilators
  • BiPAP
  • High Flow O2
• Electronic Medical Records (EMR): Meditech, Pyxis

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum Specialty Experience: 1 year pediatric ICU nursing experience (highest required)
• Preferred Experience:

  • PICU and NICU experience
  • Experience in women’s health areas such as labor and delivery, OB/GYN
• Typical Procedures Performed:

  • Spinal taps
  • Titration of critical drips (sedation, vasoactive, paralytic)
  • Sedated MRI
  • EKG/EEG/Telemetry
  • Port access and discontinuation
  • Intubation and extubation

Certifications & Licenses

• Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS
• Licenses: Valid Registered Nurse License

Work Environment & Schedule

• Shift Staffing:

  • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse + 1 RN/LPN (varies with census)
  • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse + 1 RN/LPN (varies with census)
• Floating Areas:

  • May float to NICU (low acuity patients) or Nursery
  • May float to OB/GYN if qualified
• Schedule: Rotating weekends; may include a mix of days, nights, and weekends to cover scheduling needs
• Dress Code: Teal scrubs
