ER RN Opportunity - Devils Lake, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Certifications
- BLS
- ACLS
- PALS
- NIHSS
Preferred Certifications:
- NRP
- TNCC
Department & Facility Overview
- ER with 6 beds/trauma bays
- No fast track or separate triage area; travelers will perform triage
- No separate holding or psych/seclusion rooms; ER holds intermixed
- Security not in-house 24/7; local police respond as needed
- Average patient volume: 8-25 patients per day
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- Stable patients: 1:4
- Critically ill: 1:1 or 1:2
- Diverse patient population with acute illnesses, severe injuries, psychiatric emergencies, traumas (stabbings, shootings, fractures, burns, domestic injuries)
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years ER nursing experience required
- Ability to mix medications and assist with respiratory meds, equipment, and intubation
- Preferred previous travel experience but not mandatory
- Must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips
Common Medications & Equipment
- Drips: Insulin, Heparin, Levofed, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Propofol
- Respiratory equipment: Bipap, Ventilator, Glidescope, Heated high flow, Bubble CPAP
- Radiology: X-ray, CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound adjacent to ER
- Phlebotomy: RNs can draw blood from IV starts; lab staff assist if available
Staffing & Support
- 24/7 ED Physician or Mid-Level provider physically present
- Second provider coverage 11am-11pm daily
- Charge nurse/coordinator on each shift for trauma and critical patient support
- Full-time tech support 11am-11pm; float CNA 11pm-11am
- Respiratory Therapist available 6am-6pm in-house, on-call 24/7
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Shifts: 7am-7pm, 7pm-7am, rotating days and nights (3x12s)
- Weekend requirement: 2 out of every 6 weekends
- Holiday work required; time off requests considered if submitted in advance
- No call or standby requirement; overtime available if needed
- Floating: May float to Medical Surgical unit or behavioral health support based on staffing and skills
- Scrub color: Any

- Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI or Dignity)
