Position Details

Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) – Oncology

Unit Information

Unit: 8S Oncology
Number of Beds: 21 (current census around 8-12)
Staffing:
- Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 3-4 RNs, 1 Patient Care Technician (PCT)
- Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 3-4 RNs, 1 PCT
Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:3-4, flexible up to 1:5
Equipment: Baxter pumps
Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech

Required Skills & Experience

Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 1 year in Oncology nursing
Required Certifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) License
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Chemotherapy Certification (Chemo Cert)
Preferred Skills: Hematology/Oncology (Hemonc) background

Typical Procedures

Replacing blood and electrolytes

Work Environment & Policies

Floating Areas: Hematology/Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant units
Dress Code: Royal blue scrubs
Unit Guidelines:
- Neutropenic precautions
- Strict intake and output monitoring
- Chlorhexidine (CHG) bath and linen change every 24 hours
- Dressing changes every 7 days
- Lines and caps changed every 96 hours
- No children under 16 allowed on unit
Schedule: Rotating weekends, no on-call required
