Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) – Oncology
- Employment Type: Travel
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Location: Dallas, Texas
Unit Information
- Unit: 8S Oncology
- Number of Beds: 21 (current census around 8-12)
- Staffing:
- Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 3-4 RNs, 1 Patient Care Technician (PCT)
- Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 3-4 RNs, 1 PCT
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:3-4, flexible up to 1:5
- Equipment: Baxter pumps
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech
Required Skills & Experience
- Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 1 year in Oncology nursing
- Required Certifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) License
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Chemotherapy Certification (Chemo Cert)
- Preferred Skills: Hematology/Oncology (Hemonc) background
Typical Procedures
- Replacing blood and electrolytes
Work Environment & Policies
- Floating Areas: Hematology/Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant units
- Dress Code: Royal blue scrubs
- Unit Guidelines:
- Neutropenic precautions
- Strict intake and output monitoring
- Chlorhexidine (CHG) bath and linen change every 24 hours
- Dressing changes every 7 days
- Lines and caps changed every 96 hours
- No children under 16 allowed on unit
- Schedule: Rotating weekends, no on-call required
