Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical/Oncology Specialty Unit
Location: Normal, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing

Job Description
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to a designated group of patients, utilizing the nursing process, current nursing trends, technology, and resources within the institution's philosophy.
Essential Functions
- Perform all unit-specific nursing responsibilities within the scope of service.
- Implement procedures and theories related to the specialty area.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care for healthcare team use.
- Complete initial patient assessments upon admission and develop appropriate plans of care based on patient and family needs.
- Implement and modify plans of care and nursing interventions based on continuous evaluation.
- Ensure patient and employee safety by reporting or correcting hazards and incidents.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and resolve issues professionally.
- Provide constructive feedback to peers and engage in professional development.
- Identify personal learning needs and pursue appropriate solutions.
- Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.
Department-Specific Functions
- Perform patient care duties including head-to-toe assessments, starting IVs, inserting NG tubes, dressing changes, medication administration, and Foley catheter insertion.
- Access and maintain Mediports throughout shifts.
- Maintain documentation standards as verified by quarterly chart audits.
- Assist with bedside bone marrow aspirations.
- Provide emotional support to patients and families.
- Administer chemotherapy/biotherapy to patients both on the Oncology unit and hospital-wide.
- Administer outpatient oncology treatments when the Outpatient Cancer Center is closed.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 1 year relevant nursing experience.
Education
- Required: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Certifications & Licensure
- Illinois State RN License in good standing
- BLS (American Heart Association)
