Registered Nurse – Cardio-Pulmonary Medical/Surgical

Location: Urbana, Illinois

Job Description

• Perform all nursing responsibilities specific to the unit and scope of service.
• Implement procedures and theories related to cardio-pulmonary medical/surgical care.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care for use by the healthcare team.
• Complete initial patient assessments upon admission and develop appropriate care plans based on patient and family needs.
• Implement and modify plans of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures as needed.
• Manage care of acute and chronically ill cardiac and pulmonary patients.
• Collaborate with patients and families to identify goals of care and maintain care plans.
• Administer medications and evaluate their effects.
• Prepare patients for procedures, manage pain, perform IV venipuncture, blood administration, and monitor labs.
• Discharge patients with instructions for safe transition from hospital.
• Document all care using Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• Ensure team huddles occur regularly.
• Evaluate patients and delegate tasks with appropriate follow-up.
• Respond to call lights and ensure basic care (turning, toileting, etc.) is provided per standards.
• Manage conflict and communicate professionally with all team members.
• Take responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting or correcting hazards and incidents.
• Provide constructive feedback to peers and engage in professional development.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 1 year of relevant nursing experience.

Education Requirements

• Required: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)
• Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Certifications & Licensure

• Illinois State RN License in good standing
• BLS (American Heart Association)
• ACLS (American Heart Association)
