Dialysis Tech Position - Winona, Minnesota

Job Details

  • Specialty: Dialysis Tech
  • Location: Winona, Minnesota
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Department: Dialysis
  • Facility Size: 8 chairs
  • Shifts: 2 shifts per day, 3 days per week (M/W/F or Tu/Th/Sat)
  • Patients: Approximately 16 patients per day, 32 patients per week
  • Staffing Ratios:
    • Weekdays: 1 NP, 1 RN, 2 Techs (1:4 ratio), 1 CNA
    • Weekends: 2 RNs, 1 Tech (1:4 ratio), 1 CNA

Required Certifications & Experience

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) via NNCC
  • Minimum 3 years of dialysis tech experience
  • No first-time travelers accepted

Patient Population

  • Outpatient only
  • Primarily ESRD (End-Stage Renal Disease) patients on dialysis

Job Duties

  • Prepare and maintain dialysis machines
  • Prepare patients for treatment (weighing, vital signs, access site prep)
  • Insert and remove needles for vascular access
  • Monitor patients during dialysis and report changes to RN
  • Clean and maintain equipment following infection control guidelines
  • Educate patients on basic dialysis information
  • Does not administer medications or create care plans

CNA Duties (if applicable)

  • Greet and check in patients
  • Escort patients to treatment areas and assist with rooming
  • Obtain and document initial vital signs (BP, pulse, temperature, weight)
  • Record patient health history and update EMR
  • Assist with pre- and post-dialysis care under RN supervision
  • Monitor patients for discomfort or complications and report to RN

Technology

  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR): Cerner

Scheduling & Shifts

  • 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each
  • Staggered start times between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM
  • Typically 1 rotating day off per week
  • Department hours: 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Friday & Saturday)
  • Holiday requirement: Open all holidays except Christmas; may be asked to work holiday rotation approximately every 3rd holiday

Additional Information

  • No call or standby requirement
  • No floating requirement
  • Dress code: Any color scrubs, ankles must be covered; lab coats provided
  • Orientation: 3 shifts with a preceptor
