Neuro ICU RN Position - Peoria, Illinois
Unit Details
- Department: Neuro ICU
- Beds: 18
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Shift Length: 12 hours (3 shifts, 7p-7a)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Rotating every other holiday
- Orientation: 20 hours (1 eight-hour shift and 1 twelve-hour shift)
Patient Population & Care
- Common Diagnoses: Ventriculostomy patients, strokes (with/without tPA), post-craniectomy care
- Typical Procedures/Skills Required:
- Ventriculostomy care
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification
- Ventilator management
- Arterial and central line care
- tPA administration
- Acute stroke management
- Post-craniectomy care
- RN Responsibilities:
- Titrate drips as ordered by physicians (various drips, not always set rates)
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow)
- Read and interpret telemetry strips (Phillips monitors)
Staffing & Support
- Charge Nurse: Present on each shift; may take patient assignments if staffing is limited
- House Supervisor: Available 24/7
- Nurse Aides/Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio approximately 1:9
- Telemetry/Monitor Techs: Present on every shift
Scheduling & Floating
- Floating: Travelers float first; nurses may float to intermediate care (1:3 ratio) or general floors (1:4 ratio)
- Call/Standby: Not applicable
Certifications & Requirements
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS
- Licensure: Active Illinois RN license or proof of application in process
- Drug Screen: Negative drug screen required (drug-free campus)
Additional Notes
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
- Orientation hours (12 hours) are non-billable and guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
- Call-off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty
- Scrub color/dress code: Not specified
