ICU RN Opportunity - Kearney, Nebraska

Position Details

• Specialty: ICU Registered Nurse
• Department: ICU
• Unit Size: 33 beds (average daily census 16)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 for adult patients
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, adult sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
• Drip Titration: Required for RNs (cardiac drips, insulin, sedation, etc.)
• Respiratory Equipment: Nasal cannula to ventilator; RNs troubleshoot vents, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow oxygen
• Monitors/Telemetry: GE monitors; RNs must read, interpret, and document strips; tele tech oversight provided
• Floating: Typically to PCU, occasionally MedSurg with typical ratios of 1:4 or 1:5

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Scheduling & Shifts

• Shift Times: 06:30-18:30 (day), 18:30-06:30 (night)
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling available for core staff and travelers; block scheduling generally not approved except possibly weekends
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract
• Orientation: 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation
• Return to Orientation (RTO): Required within 7 days or less for a 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved

Additional Information

• Contract Length: 16 weeks
• Nurse Aides: Available based on census; assist with 1:1 patient care or floor support; Healthcare Support Tech present 3 days/week (M-F, 08:00-16:30)
• Exams: RN candidates must pass a 90% score on an open book skills exam during orientation (failure results in contract termination)
• Policies:

  • Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
  • Candidates must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI or Dignity)
  • Driver’s license required to verify candidate location within 50-mile radius
  • Block scheduling generally not approved except for weekends; no duo scheduling or carpool sharing allowed

This position is suited for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with critical care drips, telemetry interpretation, and working in a trauma and cardiac-focused ICU environment.
