Description

ICU Nurse Opportunity - Yuma, Arizona

Position Details

  • Specialty: ICU
  • Location: Yuma, Arizona
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Date: Fixed, not flexible
  • Shift Hours: 6:45 AM - 7:15 PM (includes 3-minute grace period before and after shift)
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduled with up to 4 requested days off per 4-week period; no guaranteed blocks but accommodations are made when possible
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period
  • Holiday Requirement: 2 major holidays per contract (holiday only, not the eve, for Christmas)
  • Call/Standby: None
  • Floating: Required; float to other units with a reduced patient load (4 patients instead of 6)

Unit & Patient Care

  • Unit Type: MedSurg ICU, 42 beds
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • 1:1 or 1:2 typical
    • 1:3 if no ventilators or drips
  • Patient Types: Cardiac (open heart, balloon, Impella), tPA administration, TPE, Level 3 trauma (core staff handle vent, sedation, sepsis, pressors, DKA, cardiac, CHF, respiratory cases)
  • Trauma Experience: Trauma Level I/II recent hospital experience required but not mandatory for trauma cases
  • Charge Nurse: No charge nurse on shift; nurses respond to codes and provide condition help (RRT)
  • Support Staff: Patient Care Assistants (PCAs) with a ratio of about 1:10; PCAs assist with EKGs, blood sugar checks, procedure setup, I/O, ADLs, and lab draws (phlebotomy)

Clinical Requirements & Skills

  • Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • EMR: Epic proficiency required and recent experience
  • Nurse Responsibilities:
    • Titrate drips (vasopressors, inotropes, antiarrhythmics, antihypertensives, beta-adrenergics, sedatives, paralytics, analgesics, anticoagulants, insulin)
  • Common Drips Include:
    • Vasopressors: Epinephrine, Levophed, Phenylephrine, Vasopressin
    • Inotropes: Dopamine, Dobutamine, Primacor
    • Antiarrhythmics: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Esmolol, Lidocaine, Procainamide
    • Antihypertensives: Clevidipine, Labetalol, Cardene, Nipride, Nitro
    • Beta Adrenergic: Isuprel
    • Sedatives: Ketamine, Precedex, Propofol, Versed
    • Paralytics: Vecuronium, Nimbex, Rocuronium
    • Analgesics: Fentanyl, Morphine
    • Anticoagulants: Aggrastat, tPA, Argatroban, Heparin, Integrilin
    • Additional: Insulin

Team & Support

  • Physician Coverage: Intensivist coverage 24/7 (Days: 2 MDs + 1 NP; Nights: 1 MD + 1 NP)
  • Respiratory Therapy: RT available 24/7; manages vent settings, intubations, ABGs, and assists with bedside trachs
  • RT Equipment: Ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow
  • Tele/Monitor Techs: Unit Support Person (USR) handles unit clerk duties and tele monitoring; centralized tele monitoring at nurse stations and in patient rooms

Orientation & Training

  • One day New Employee Orientation (NEO)
  • One day with educator for skills, competencies, and procedures
  • One day unit/department-specific floor orientation

  • 100-mile radius rule applies
  • No 48-hour shift guarantees
  • No blocked scheduling requests
  • No more than 5 days of Return to Office (RTO)
