RN Float Pool Opportunity – Prescott, Arizona

• Float between PCU (Progressive Care Unit), Telemetry, and Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) units

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Experience & Certifications Required

• Minimum 2 years experience in Med/Surg and Telemetry
• At least 1 year experience in PCU setting
• Current state RN license
• ACLS and BLS certifications
• Must pass dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing

Unit/Department Details

• Float Pool covers MedSurg, Telemetry, and PCU across two campuses
• Includes inpatient holding in Emergency Department
• East Campus includes ICU and stepdown patients (10-bed double occupancy)
• West Campus Stepdown: 14 rooms (double occupancy), average census 20
• West Med Tele: 95 beds divided into 4 areas
• MedSurg broken into 10-room pods, double occupancy

Nurse:Patient Ratios

• PCU: 1:4
• MedSurg/Telemetry: 1:5-6

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Geriatric patients
• Orthopedic patients
• Post-procedural patients from cath lab (groin site care)
• Post-MI, post-cardiac cath, CABG post-op day 3-4

Skills & Responsibilities

• RNs must be comfortable titrating drips including:

  • Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Insulin
• Nurses must be able to interpret cardiac monitor strips (no monitor techs on unit)
• Charge nurses present but do not take patient assignments
• Nurse aides utilized in all settings
• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow oxygen in PCU and MedSurg

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts: 7 AM – 7 PM (AM and PM shifts)
• Schedule published 6 weeks in advance, 4 weeks at a time
• Night shift may allow block scheduling
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Holiday coverage included in permanent staff rotation
• No call or standby requirements
• Unit assignments communicated by text message 2 hours before shift start
• Travel time between campuses approximately 20-25 minutes
• Scrub color currently solid professional colors; transitioning to navy scrubs per upcoming guidelines

Orientation

• 8-hour general hospital orientation day
• 12-hour shift orientation at West MedTele and PCU units
• East campus orientation similar but smaller and easier to navigate

Additional Notes

• Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year
