Position Details

Unit Information

• Unit Name: 5A Trauma
• Number of Beds: 18
• Patient Ratios: 2:1
• Unit Staffing: RNs and Unit Secretary; total care provided by RNs
• Equipment Used: Ventilators, Alaris IV pumps, Balloon pumps, Ventriculostomy drains, Glucometers
• Technology: Use of iMobile phones and technology by all staff
• PPE: Masks, face shields, goggles, gloves, PAPRs and hoods for suspected COVID-19 patients
• Documentation System: Meditech using Evidence Based Clinical Documentation (EBCD)
• Scheduling: 12-hour shifts (7 AM to 7 PM), every other weekend required
• Floating Policy: Nurses may float to other Medical-Surgical units, with priority to Intensive Care Units
• Patient Experience: Hourly rounding, bedside hand-off reporting, completion of “My Care Board” during hand-off, use of AIDET focusing on compassionate connected care

Required Skills & Experience

• Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty (RN)
• Experience Required: ICU experience mandatory
• Prior Travel Experience: Not specified (assumed not required)
• Must be willing to care for COVID-19 patients
• Positive attitude, flexibility, teamwork, desire for excellence, self-motivation, good communication and people skills, ability to work in a diverse environment

Advanced Skills Needed

• Ventilator management
• Critical care drip knowledge
• Thorough and accurate assessment skills
• Proficient knowledge of cardiac, neuro, and respiratory systems

Procedures Performed on Unit

• Intubations
• Cardioversions
• Ventriculostomy drain placement and management
• Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) management
• Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)
• Proning of patients

Certifications Required

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) is a plus

Dress Code

• Ceil blue scrubs required
• White or ceil blue scrub jacket optional
• Green surgery scrubs provided when working with COVID-19 patients
