Travel Nurse Opportunity: Med Surg Ortho Trauma (4S)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts (Day: 06:30-19:00, Night: 18:30-07:00)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: 2-3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year's
Orientation: 2 days unit/department specific

• Department: Med Tele / Ortho RN - 4th Floor North & South
• Beds: 55
• Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
• Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio 1:10-20
• Charge Nurse: Yes, charge nurse takes an assignment
• Tele/Monitor Techs: Yes, tele techs interpret strips; RNs should have tele awareness
• Common Diagnoses/Patient Types:

  • Joint replacements
  • Fractures
  • Colon resections
  • COPD exacerbation
  • Prostatectomy
  • Cellulitis
  • Sepsis
  • Ortho trauma
  • GI bleeds
  • Pneumonia
  • Failure to thrive

Clinical Responsibilities

• RN required to titrate drips: Heparin, lidocaine, ketamine
• Common drips: PCA pumps
• Floating: Yes, to other MedSurg areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for beds

Requirements & Policies

• Certifications: BLS required (AHA); ACLS preferred
• Exam: Pass/fail open book exam during orientation; must score 90% or higher
• Radius Rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
• Driver’s License: Required at submission to verify distance
• Fingernail Policy: Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
• Return to Office (RTO): Required within 7 days or less for the 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved

• Mechanical lifts available in every other room
• Emphasis on hourly rounding and responsiveness
• High patient turnover with multiple discharges and admissions daily
• Successful nurses are team players, have good attendance, are friendly, compassionate, and patient-focused
• Patient population includes diverse cultures such as Spanish, Karen, and Burmese
