Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Vero Beach, Florida
Facility: 24-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with mixed medical and surgical patients, including 6 dedicated Cardiovascular ICU open heart recovery rooms equipped with advanced monitoring.
Specialty: ICU nursing with exposure to cardiovascular and neurological post-procedure care (stroke center with thrombectomies and aneurysm clips/coils).

Contract Length

• 26 weeks (interpreted as weeks since 4-40 range)

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA provider card or RQI; instructor card not accepted. Required for all candidates.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA provider card or RQI; instructor card not accepted. Required for ICU and many other units (not required for OR).
• NIH Stroke Certification: Required annually for ICU, ER, Interventional Radiology, MS/Tele, PACU, PCU, Stepdown, Telemetry. Approved vendors include APEX, AHA, AACME, Blue Cloud by HealthCarePoint.
• Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Administered during orientation for RNs/LPNs; 2 attempts allowed per test.
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, Chemo, EFM) but primarily focus on ICU-related certifications here.

Required Background Checks & Verifications

• 7-year criminal background check updated annually, including all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals.
• Florida AHCA Level II fingerprinting clearance required prior to start (Livescan electronic fingerprinting accepted nationwide). Clearance can take up to 10 business days or longer if prior hits exist.
• Primary source verification of state nursing license within 30 days of start.
• NURSYS verification required within 30 days for all RNs.

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 6 months of start.
• Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year, updated annually. Chest X-ray required if past positive TB.
• Immunizations or positive titers required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen including nicotine within 1 year of start.
• Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (medical/religious exemptions allowed but must be documented).
• COVID-19 vaccination required (2 doses Pfizer/Moderna or 1 dose J&J); no declinations allowed unless approved medical/religious exemption with proper documentation.

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

• Completion of online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome; video must be watched before test).
• Signed acknowledgment of HIPAA and safety manuals.
• Pass/fail competency exams as applicable to profession and specialty.
• References: 2 professional references within 2 years required for travel nurses.
• Employment application and skills checklist updated annually.

• Facility is a certified Stroke Center with specialized neurological and cardiovascular care.
• Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service.
• Fingerprinting and background clearance must be completed and approved before starting.
• Modules and onboarding can take multiple days; candidates should prioritize completion.
• Facility issues radiation badges if applicable.
