PCU RN - Night Shift
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking experienced Night PCU Registered Nurses for a fast-paced unit.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years as an RN
- At least 1 year of unit-specific experience
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Must pass a 90% or higher on an open book skills exam during orientation (pass/fail)
- Valid driver’s license required to verify residence within 50-mile radius
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
Unit Details
- Department: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Beds: 35
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5
- Nurse aide/patient care tech ratio: 1:10 or 2:20
- Patient population: Adults and geriatrics with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring needs
- Nurses are required to titrate drips such as Cardizem, beta blockers, and seizure medications
- Charge nurse present on each shift (charge nurse does not take patient assignment)
Schedule & Orientation
- Shifts: 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM and 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM (12-hour shifts, night shift focus)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: Every third holiday
- No call or standby requirements
- Floating to medical floors, ICU, or rehab may be required
- Orientation: First week onboarding plus 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation
Additional Information
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
- This is a fast-paced environment requiring positive attitude, teamwork, strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Return to work (RTO) must be within 7 days of contract start; no extensions allowed
