Neuro ICU Travel Nurse Opportunity - Phoenix, Arizona

Unit Details

• Unit: Neuro ICU
• Beds: 32
• Patient Ratios: 1:2
• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm or 7pm-7am)
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks
• Holidays: Work into core staff rotation based on unit coverage
• Charge Nurse: Yes, but does not take patients
• Floating: Required to float between all ICU floors and Telemetry units; tele float ratio 4:1
• Orientation: 2 shifts on the floor
• Common Diagnoses: Critical care patients with neuro diagnoses including craniotomies, brain tumor removals, ablations, brain biopsies, complicated spine surgeries, and scoliosis repair
• Equipment: Phillips monitors, ventilators, 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support

Requirements

• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a large hospital (450+ beds)
  • Level 1 Trauma experience required
  • 3-6 months previous travel experience required
  • Previous travel experience specifically in ED or Neuro ICU required
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS required
• EMR: Cerner experience required
• Skills:

  • Strong neuro assessment skills
  • Experience with ICP (intracranial pressure) monitoring
  • EVD (external ventricular drain) experience required
• Exams:

  • Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts; failure results in 6-month disqualification in region)
  • Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation (study guide provided)
• Other:

  • Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings
  • Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
  • Must be able to pass SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (pass/fail; sterile field competency required)
  • Must have own vehicle (travel teams)
  • Cannot hold concurrent contracts with this employer
  • Must have been off permanent staff at this facility system for 12 months before being eligible for travel assignment

• Minimum Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Contract Length Interpretation: 13 weeks (as specified)

Additional Notes

• Parking is assigned with shuttle service to the facility; night shift parking in garage
• Facility enforces strict onboarding deadlines; all paperwork must be complete by Wednesday 1pm CST before start
• Floating includes all ICU and Telemetry units; tele float patient load 4:1
• Scrub color: any non-offensive color or print; steel grey preferred for neuro floors
• Must be willing to work holidays as scheduled
• SIMs Lab and other educational sessions on lifts, restraints, and wound care are mandatory
• Facility will not consider contracts shorter than 13 weeks
• Candidates must include unit size, hospital size, trauma level, and EMR experience in profiles submitted

This position is ideal for experienced Neuro ICU nurses with strong critical care skills, trauma experience, and previous travel assignments who are comfortable with a teaching hospital environment and floating across ICU and telemetry units.
